I am an Assistant Professor of Biological Sciences at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, CA and I study the role of physiology in animal communication, typically using birds as a model. I am particularly interested in how individual physiological constraints generate variation in behavioral display performance. Among my other interests are the genetic, ecological, and neural mechanisms contributing to generalism in brood parasites and vocal development in songbirds.
